Reception Dinner - Green Table Settings
Are you currently or soon going to be planning a wedding reception? Have you been considering a green and sustainable wedding? Have you possibly been wondering what kind of table setting is truly green? Let's look at all you can do for a green table setting at your reception in a lot more detail.
You may or may not be surprised to hear that elegant is actually more ecologically sustainable in a green way of putting it. More so than using disposable plates at least, even if they are made of recycled materials. Using recycled materials is wonderful but using a plate that can be washed and used again like new is truly a hallmark of long term sustainability. The best way of doing your dinnerware is really to simply rent it from your caterer or your reception hall. This may limit your choices of style and pattern though. Should you find that an issue then another green solution is to find a local potter who actually makes the plates in a sustainable way and buy in bulk from them or buy plates in bulk from an import store that supports "Free Trade". This is a way to regulate prices so that large companies don't make 1000 percent profit off of laborers who only make minimum wage in their prospective country. It is worth noting that there are plastic plates being made from corn, but in all honesty, who wants a plastic plate at their wedding reception? Even if it is made from corn in a green kind of way, it still lacks elegance.
The same goes for the napkins and silverware as well. Your napkins should optimally be made out of an organic fiber like cotton. You obviously won't be having plastic silverware at a wedding reception if you care anything about having an elegant aesthetic in any way. You can, however, get elegant tableware made of recycled wood materials or bamboo, but really chopsticks are your best bet for an elegant and sustainable solution. They don't work so well for soup though, so do plan to accommodate any courses you may need to. The truth is that as long as you are using silverware that you are either reusing yourself, renting from the caterer, or renting from the reception hall, you are supporting the concept of reusing. As long as you aren't buying something that is not easily and quickly bio-degradable and using it only once for your wedding, then you are in a green and sustainable modality to some extent already.
Bamboo is really a wonderful material and it can actually be used to make just about everything from your plates to forks, knives, bowls, tables, and more. It is truly amazing what is possible with this spectacularly sustainable wood. It is likely that in the coming years you will be seeing more and more bamboo used without even noticing it since it is easily cloaked and can appear in various forms.
Have fun picking out an elegant and sustainable table setting for your special occasion!
